Students who have completed the Silver Award may progress to Gold. This award is usually completed at Year 12 but the flexibility of the programme allows for individual student needs. It is expected that students at this level will be able to complete work independently but will still receive guidance from their tutor/teacher. The situations in which they will carry out challenges will sometimes be familiar to them, and with familiar people, but they also need to demonstrate that they can tackle situations that are unfamiliar and with unfamiliar people.
Students may enter at the Gold level without having completed Silver.
If students enter the Scheme at Level 2, they will need to complete 4 points to achieve the Gold Award. They need to show evidence of action planning (1 point is given for action planning, recording achievement, reviewing of essential skills) and also need to complete the required number of challenges.
If students have completed and been awarded the Silver Award, they are allowed to carry 1 point through to the Gold Award as recognition of prior learning. For the Gold Award, students must complete the required number of challenges but also must ensure that they cover the requirements for the essential skills at Level 2. The essential skills must be planned and mapped into the challenges at the start of this Award.
It is possible for students to gather evidence from the Gold Award to satisfy the NZQA criteria for the Essential Skills of SM, Work and PS, and obtain credit inclusion within the NCEA framework at Level 2.
ASDAN Awards also provide opportunities for students to achieve Unit Standards and demonstrate appropriate levels of expertise in the Key Competencies.
Students may choose challenges from the following modules:
Following internal moderation, centres are required to register candidates for external verification two calendar weeks before a regional meeting. Regional meetings are held in Terms 2, 3 & 4. Certificates are issued by ASDAN on successful completion of the Award.
The full Gold Award offers progression into the Platinum Award. The Gold Award is a full year's course and is worth 20 credit equivalents at Level 2, which may be used towards NCEA if needed.
