January 2008 - Letter to registered centres
Kia ora Tatou Katoa
Na mihi o te ra
We are writing to invite you and other colleagues to one of the ASDAN workshops we are holding throughout New Zealand during March for practitioners from schools, colleges and training providers who are interested in extending and accrediting curriculum enrichment activities for the 10-19 age group.
Involvement with ASDAN has steadily increased amongst schools in New Zealand over the last nine years and there are now around 200 centres actively involved. NZQA has approved ASDAN as a course provider. Schools and Colleges have found the ASDAN courses provide an excellent vehicle for embracing the tremendous work that students are doing outside their normal subjects, and for gaining certificates and celebrating their achievements.
A remarkable network of ASDAN practitioners has developed over the years and we have developed a new organisational structure, and a management group of individuals in New Zealand with a keen interest in the values behind the ASDAN work.
I have recently been appointed as the National Manager for New Zealand with responsibility for advising centres about Essential Skills, Key Competencies and Unit Standards and to support schools with all aspects of the ASDAN courses, including issues relating to NZQA accreditation.
I am a New Zealand trained teacher, with current experience in mainstream, transition and special education. I have also worked as a kaiako in Teacher Education at Te Wananga o Aotearoa, where I was involved in delivery and development of Maori based Teacher Education programmes, I am very excited to have this opportunity to work with you to further develop the ASDAN courses accordingly.
